Welcome to Fantasy Football: Meta

How does one choose the right tools to make his fantasy football experience the best?

I think this is the question that many experienced and new fantasy football players struggle with at least once in their managing career. The answer, unfortunately, is not an easy one – but I’m here to help. If you search for “Fantasy Football” on Google, you get over 25 million results. Let’s put that into context…

Fantasy Football: 25 million

Fantasy Baseball: 2.9million

Fantasy Basketball: 1.6million

Fantasy Hockey: 1.4million

Fantasy NASCAR: 132,000

Fantasy Beer Pong: 289

Fantasy Ping Pong: 180

Fantasy Hopscotch: 7

Fantasy Hedge Fund Management: 0

Okay, these numbers bring a few things to mind:

1 – All the hedge fund managers reading this need to get the lead out.

2 – For all 7 of you, little Suzie Stevenson should be your first round pick. She has serious ups.

3 – For some reason, I’m not at all surprised that Beer Pong is beating out Ping Pong.

And the most important is:

4 – Fantasy Football is – by far – more popular than all other fantasy sports combined. By a long shot.

That’s where I step in. The number one key to an enjoyable fantasy football experience is - well, winning. But the number two key would have to be the ease at which you win. I’ve been in your shoes before, spending hours online, searching for that extra bit of help. Trying to compare players by dozens of different metrics. Sneaking a look at your team while the boss wasn’t looking. Sitting Sunday morning trying to discern whether to believe website A, who says Joseph Addai is going to play, or website B who says Dominic Rhodes is.

This took a lot of time. A lot of time. For some, this time sink puts a strain on their jobs, or maybe their relationship. There is a reason why wives and girlfriends dread the word “Fantasy” – and it has nothing to do with the bedroom. The amount of time it takes to win is proportional to the fun you have winning. When a pastime becomes so difficult you start comparing it to a job, it is no longer worth the effort.

So I guess, I’m going to be handing out fun this year. Hopefully, I can help expand how you think about your team and show you the tools to make the transition to fantasy football glory and easy – and enjoyable – one. Each blog post will be dedicated to how to navigate the wide world of Fantasy Football both online and off. Don’t expect stats and start ‘em, sit ‘em advice – there are too many sites out there already for this. We’ll help you decide which site to trust, who can give you the best advice, and how to make the best of your time. Let us do the research, you just reap the benefits.

So come back soon, come back often and I’ll help you go through the world of fantasy football. Let me know what you hope to see here. If you have a favorite site, magazine or book – let me know. We have a “Comments” section for a reason!

Thanks for reading –
